THIRD GENERATION EPSILON CRANES – A COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE, INNOVATION, AND SUSTAINABILITY

THIRD GENERATION EPSILON CRANES – A COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE, INNOVATION, AND SUSTAINABILITY

The new Generation 3 EPSILON cranes represent the result of carefully listening to user needs and many years of industry experience. They were developed in close collaboration with users, taking into account real-world challenges and on-site requirements.

In a spirit of mutual trust, the engineering team combined the best features of previous generations with the latest technological advancements. The result is a new line of cranes that offers:

  • a higher level of comfort and ease of operation,
  • a modern and functional design,
  • technologies developed for specific applications,
  • cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

EPSILON Generation 3 makes everyday work easier, increases productivity, and reduces operating costs. It is designed for professionals seeking a reliable solution for long-term tasks, with additional focus on sustainability.

Because a sustainable, efficient, and responsible way of working is the only path to a secure future—for all the new generations to come.

All because we know that a sustainable and cost-effective way of working is the only way to secure the future for new generations.

INTERVIEW

with Josef Leitner & Stefan Kopp

The slogan of the new Generation 3 is:
Experience and technology. Now we bring them together. The new GENERATION 3.

Josef, what does experience mean to you, considering that you are our “voice of the customer”? What does experience as such mean for EPSILON?

Josef:
“Experience means learning—a constant process in which good and proven things are perfected. Testing new things and trying unconventional approaches. But it also means learning from mistakes—it is important to recognize and acknowledge them.”   As long as you are gaining experience, you are building your knowledge and, above all, practical know-how, you continue to grow and develop. This development can be seen and felt in the new GENERATION 3.

Can you tell us more about your daily responsibilities: What feedback did you receive from your customers, and how did it influence GENERATION 3?

Josef:
“Our customers know best what they need. For us, this means less talking and more listening. For me personally, in my job, it means being as close to customers as possible. It means visiting them, speaking with them directly, and doing so while they are carrying out their work. In this way, we learn directly from the customer what kind of equipment they want and what kind of equipment they need. And that is exactly what we have done for customers with the new GENERATION 3: reliability, durability, customer benefit, and something that is certainly pleasing to the eye.”

Stefan is the development manager for the new GENERATION 3 at EPSILON.

We have now heard a lot about experience, but how does technology fit into the story? How has technology evolved and improved with the new GENERATION 3? What can we expect?

Stefan:
“Without technology, our world would not look the way it does today. Like experience, technology also develops based on what is known and proven. The most modern high-strength steels require adapted processing technologies. In combination with our strength—experience with steel structures—GENERATION 3 was born: stronger, faster, with greater reach, all without increasing weight. New technologies have also been applied in hydraulics. During the design process, we relied on feedback from our test drivers. In addition, numerous sensors now collect data. Our motto has remained the same: If something works, we will adopt it.”

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW GENERATION 3

  • Longest reach in its class – up to 10.9 m
  • COMFORT DRIVE – A new control system featuring 360° lighting.
  • Central lubrication options: automatic and manual.
  • SMART CONTROL system: option for an electric cabin.
  • New outrigger options – supporting a width of up to 5.4 meters.

THE LONGEST REACH IN ITS CLASS

up to 10.9 meters

With a reach of almost 11 meters, GENERATION 3 once again offers the longest reach in its class. A significantly larger working radius and a reduced number of required truck repositioning steps make operations much more efficient. With the goal of building a stronger crane without adding weight, we completely redesigned and extensively optimized the steel structure of the new GENERATION 3. Thanks to this, the phrase “long, longer, longest” refers both to reach and to the service life of our cranes.

COMFORT DRIVE

It includes a new 360° lighting system.

The individuals who operate the crane are at the very heart of our business. For them, we have developed a new, compact control system — COMFORT DRIVE. The result is maximum ergonomic efficiency during crane operation and minimal effort during extended tasks. The Grammer seat provides a superior level of comfort. Thanks to the hydraulic control system, crane controls are highly responsive and extremely precise. New remote control options ensure a secure grip in every situation.

If the days are too short for long tasks, the new 360° lighting system turns night into day, creating optimal working conditions. In addition to the existing two, four additional LED spotlights ensure perfect illumination of your working environment.

Central Lubrication Options

automatic or manual

The new central lubrication options enhance maintenance efficiency. Both automatic and manual central lubrication systems are fully integrated into the crane design to ensure smooth operation from the very start. With the automatic central lubrication option, the oil reservoir automatically applies lubricant to the main rotating axes. Manual lubrication is no longer required — only a quick check of the oil level in the reservoir is needed to ensure uninterrupted operation.

With the manual central lubrication option, the most critical lubrication points can be quickly serviced from a single central location using a grease gun.

New Stabilizer Options

stabilization within 5.4 m

New stabilizer options ensure optimal stability with stabilization within a width of up to 5.4 meters, while maintaining compact dimensions when retracted. This provides even greater overall system stability, especially when loading large loads with extended lateral reach. Internal hose routing further reduces the risk of hydraulic damage.

SMART CONTROL

Smart Epsilon Support System

The new PALFINGER SMART CONTROL support system enables even faster and more intuitive crane operation and is available as an option for the new GENERATION 3 for on-road and off-road applications. During the crane design process, the sensor locations for SMART CONTROL were taken into account and fully integrated into the overall system.   SMART CONTROL sensors allow operators to fully focus on log handling, reduce working effort, and shorten the training time required for new operators. Raising the bar in terms of practicality and safety, SMART CONTROL is initially available for L and Z cranes with the TEC CAB control system and for Generation 3 models with dual telescoping.
